Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Warehousing & Storage

An Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme. The learner will be working for an employer as well as completing training and gaining recognised qualifications. An apprentice can be a new or existing employee.

Who is this suitable for?

People who work for around 30 hours a week in a warehousing environment. They need to be paid at least the minimum Apprenticeship wage by the employer. They could be working as a Warehouse Operative or Fork Lift Truck Driver. For more details about wages visit the Apprenticeship website »

What qualifications will I gain?

  • Level 2 (NVQ) Certificate in Warehousing & Storage
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in English

These are awarded by City & Guilds.

How long does it take?

It usually takes about a year.

How much does it cost?

Funding is available if the learner is a British Citizen, from an EU member country or has lived in the UK for 3 years or more (and has been given the right to remain).

For those aged 16–18 all training on the Apprenticeship is fully-funded.

Those who are 19 years old or over can receive funding for part of the fees.

What does the programme cover?

The main components of the Apprenticeship are:

  • A QCF qualification (replaced NVQs)
    Level 2 (NVQ) Certificate in Warehousing & Storage. An assessor will conduct a series of observations of the apprentice carrying out their role. They will also be set work to complete to build up a portfolio. There is a separate handout for this qualification for details of what is covered.
  • Functional Skills in Maths & English
    A tutor comes out to the workplace to complete the training and test. (This element does not have to be completed if the learner has achieved GCSEs in English and Maths in the last five years).
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
    There is no formal assessment but evidence that it has been covered will be required when claiming certification.
